How can research and public service practice inform each other to create more inclusive and sustainable employment services?
In this NODUS Talk, Annukka Svanda from Aalto University and Olga Silfver from the City of Espoo share experiences from the development and implementation of Espoo's Competence Centre for Highly Educated Immigrants (KOSKE) and other work.
Developed through a long-term collaboration between researchers, municipal professionals and immigrants, KOSKE addresses the challenges highly educated immigrants face in accessing employment that corresponds to their skills and qualifications.
Combining perspectives from research and public service practice, the speakers explore how participatory service design can reveal institutional barriers to employment, challenge established ways of working and support the development of more inclusive services. They reflect on how research informs service development, how practical experiences generate new research insights, and what this ongoing exchange can teach us about achieving lasting organizational change.
